What's included in these reports?

You receive a breakdown of your mark for each Weekly Showcase video you have submitted over the month, as well as a mark for your attitude and effort (each out of 100). You receive marks for:

  • practicing (dah!)

  • how well you have improved from the week before

  • your attention to detail in your practice

  • your effort and commitment to working through something that is challenging

  • your attitude and personal approach to learning the given material

Each student is marked according to their level, their age and their individual circumstances.

  • You can also see your monthly progress in comparison to the Virtual Piano Academy class average, to see if you're performing above or below the average mark.

  • Your Progress Reports are private and only visible to you and your teacher.

  • All marks are final and non-negotiable.

Where can I see my Progress Report?

Progress Reports for all students are posted in your lesson portal on the first weekday of each month (except January and December, due to the Christmas break). You can view all Progress Report release dates in our Calendar of Events.

Progress Reports when you first join Virtual Piano Academy

You don't get a Progress Report for the first month you are a student with us.

Example: if you join Virtual Piano Academy on March 20, you won't receive a Progress Report for March. Your teacher will start allocating marks and points for you from 1 April, and you will receive your first Progress Report (for the month of April) on the first weekday of May.

Can anyone else see my individual results?

No. The only people who can see your results are your teacher and whoever you choose to share it with.

Can I get Progress Reports more often than this?

Nope. We already go beyond what most other music schools do by providing you with this monthly snapshot of your progress. We will not provide any additional reports beyond this. Any requests for updates to be sent on your progress beyond this monthly report will be ignored. The only exception to this is if you sit for an exam. In this case, you will be provided with a separate report from the examinations board.

Can I Talk to My Teacher About My Marks?

Your lesson fee does not include additional time spent chatting to you about your marks, dissecting them or discussing the ins and outs of your progress etc. If you'd like to talk in-depth with your teacher about your progress (or something outside of the lessons set by your teacher), you will need to request (and pay for) an additional lesson. Please read this article for further details on this.
