Yes! We have high standards when it comes to behaviour at Virtual Piano Academy. This includes the behaviour of our teachers, students (AND their parents!).

Being a completely digital music school means the boundaries of communication, time and behaviour can easily be blurred, so we need to have some rules in place, and be strict about sticking to them.

Our Philosophy

This may sound extreme, but sadly, there are some people in this world that intentionally bring harm to others. We don't want these people as part of our music school. We don't want you to have to interact with these people whilst learning with us. We take this very seriously! We do not want these kinds of people ruining the experience for all of you who are doing the right thing.

It's really important for us as a business to provide a safe, happy and inspiring learning environment for our students. We believe one bad apple can ruin the whole bunch. Our values and philosophies are based on positivity and respect for one another, and we will therefore not tolerate negative, aggressive, discriminatory or demanding behaviour from anyone who is part of our community (students, parents or teachers).

Can I Get Kicked Out of Virtual Piano Academy?

We want all our teachers, students and parents to adhere to the same high standards of behaviour. There aren't different rules for different people. If your behaviour is inappropriate, you will be asked to leave Virtual Piano Academy without a refund and without negotiation.

You can get kicked out for your behaviour if:

  • You write negative comments on The Academy HIVE wall or degrade another student. Constructive criticism and advice is fine (and encouraged) but saying things like “this is horrible” or “you’re no good” in a comment, will not be tolerated. You will be kicked out of Virtual Piano Academy immediately, without a refund.

  • Use of offensive language is also not tolerated. Any offensive language used on The Academy HIVE or in a message (or verbally) towards your teacher, Virtual Piano Academy staff or another student, is grounds for immediate dismissal, without refund.

  • Bullying another student, parent or teacher of the Virtual Piano Academy. We have a zero-tolerance policy for bullies, and you'll be asked to leave without a refund.

  • Unreasonable demands being placed on your teacher (including calling or messaging them inappropriately; speaking to them about things that aren't related to what you are learning at Virtual Piano Academy; making threats; using any offensive language in conversation with them; or insistently contacting them using methods outside of our approved contact methods). You will be asked to leave Virtual Piano Academy if you exhibit this kind of behaviour, without a refund.

Your Behaviour Towards Virtual Piano Academy Teachers and Staff

It's our job to bring you the best possible piano lessons on the planet. But to do this, we also need to make sure our amazing teachers are happy, healthy and can switch off at the end of the day to recharge, before diving into another day of awesome piano lessons!

As harsh as this might sound, your lesson fee doesn't give you 24/7 access to your teacher or the personal time of Virtual Piano Academy staff. It also doesn't give you endless access to their feedback, expertise or advice; and it doesn't give you permission to talk to them outside of your lesson.

Please familiarise yourself with our approved methods for contacting your teacher by reading this article.

You can also find out exactly what your lesson fee does give you access to, by reading this article.

Our Academy Pillars

We expect all our students (and parents) to follow these mantras:

1. I take responsibility for my own learning, practice and progress.

2. I have an open and positive approach to learning.

3. I respect my fellow learners, my teachers and myself.

4. I pay attention to the details in the music. This is where the magic lies.

5. I always aim to walk away from my practice being able to do something I couldn't do before.

6. I work towards my goal by committing to regular, focused, purpose-driven practice.

7. I will not succeed with a negative attitude.

8. I take all feedback (even if it's hard to hear) as an opportunity to learn and improve.
